Turquoise is an opaque, blue-to-green mineral that is a hydrated phosphate of copper and aluminum. Turquoise is a rare, semiprecious mineral used in jewelry throughout human history, but has been devalued in modern times due to the introduction of treated, colored and synthetic imitations. The color change can be caused by light or by a chemical reaction with cosmetics, dust or the acidity of the wearer’s skin.
